Recommended Reading Books for Year 5 children
Spanish Exchange
The children in Year 5 have the opportunity to take part in a Spanish Exchange. Those choosing to be involved will spend a week in Nigran, where they experience what life is like in a Spanish school.
The children not in Spanish have a varied week that involves activities such as Spanish dancing, Spanish food tasting, kayaking and archery.
P.E. Kits
Your child must have the following items in order to do P.E.:
St. Catherine's RC Primary P.E. T-shirt (white/burgundy)
School P.E. Shorts (summer) Plain black/grey jogging bottom (winter)
Trainers (not pumps)
If you require more information or have any questions please see your child's class teacher.
Reading
Each night, Year 5 students are expected to read at home. They will come home with two books: a library book and a 'take home book' which comes with a guidance bookmark for parents consisting of comprehension questions. We would appreciate it if you could sign the reading diary weekly.
We ask that the children themselves record their daily reading into their reading record each day, recording the book name/page number and a sentence or two to summarise what they have read.
Guidance on how to use reading records effectively is glued into each child's reading reading record.
Times Tables Rock Stars
Times tables form the basis of a great deal of Year 5 and 6 mathematical learning and therefore it is vital that the children know their times tables and related division facts quickly and off-by-heart. Your child can practice on Times Table Rock Stars using the website or the app. Each child has their own login which they should have recorded in their reading record.
Many thanks!
